This original and hands-on two day course answers the need for in-depth training in the practical elments of Media and Film, combined with an insightful study of Documentary and 'Real'. Delegates will be split into smaller groups in order to have maximum access to media equipment. Jill and David's sessions will run in parallel.

GCSE Media Studies: Inspiring Teaching and Learning Strategies for Success

This training day will give an overview of the three existing specifications. We will introduce teaching through Cross Media Topics and integrate new technologies into this delivery. We will also look at how to introduce each board's particular topic area with ideas for course planning. School Radio: How it Works and Why

Radio in schools is gaining popularity, and there are plenty of schools buying equipment…but so often the 'what's next' is an after thought. So this course looks at training issues. We look at target audiences, playlists, running orders, interview techniques and basic programme presentation from all-speech to music based. There will be advice on what equipment to buy and, crucially, what not to buy. We will look at involving the community with broadcasts and how to run a 24/7 FM radio station from school as well as an internal service.

Setting Up and Teaching A Level Film Studies

By the end of the course delegates will understand the six sections of the A level Film specification at AS and at A2 level – and, crucially, how the two courses fit together and overlap. They will understand the ethos of the specification and the resources required to successfully set up the course. Shooting Green Screen

Shooting green screen allows film makers to create anything from flying superheroes to an ancient battle without a Hollywood feature budget. In this hands-on course, delegates will shoot DV footage on a green screen backdrop and explore how to capture images separately from the background, match lighting conditions, and use visually arresting images for compositing.

The course will offer an introduction to A Level Media Studies and will provide an overview of the principles central to the subject, both in terms of course content and in preparation for assessment. An overview of each awarding body’s requirements for 2008 will be presented and the content of the day will cover areas common to each specification.
