Leading Whole School Gifted and Talented

This course is aimed at teachers and managers who are embarking upon the introduction of a Gifted and Talented strategy. Fresh ideas regarding curriculum provision, teaching and learning styles and enrichment opportunities will be examined. The tutor will demonstrate how to develop a practical whole school approach involving all teachers, parents and pupils. Methods of enriching the curriculum, and opportunities provided by other agencies will be examined, together with guidance on how to effectively integrate their services into your overall strategy.

Aims of the course are to:

  • Provide criteria for Identification of Gifted and Talented students
  • Examine teaching and learning that provides Appropriate Challenge
  • Highlight the opportunities for enrichment Within and Beyond the Curriculum
  • Explore ways in which a school can raise the profile of gifted and talented pupils in a supportive environment.

John M

He has held a number of key academic and pastoral leadership roles in schools and colleges. John still teaches in an Ofsted rated Outstanding School and was judged Outstanding by Ofsted in 2015. As a teacher CPD & school improvement consultant he consistently receives fantastic evaluations from delegates. He has also recently spoken on "Challenge and Differentiation" at a national conference for deputy head teachers, and is a regular tutor for workshops concerned with improving school leadership and teaching and learning.

John has considerable experience of improving GCSE and A level teaching as well as the IGCSE and IB curricula and is currently writing and editing interactive educational software to help improve science teaching. For a number of years John worked as a co-opted school governor in an outer London borough, where he was chair of the curriculum committee.
