Due to the literacy demands of the new Ofsted framework, teachers in all subject areas need to demonstrate the development of students' skills in the four areas of reading, writing, listening and speaking. Students' attainment and their progress in reading and writing are key indicators of literacy standards in schools and it is closely linked to achievement across all subject areas.
This course will examine the current thinking about reading and writing in secondary schools and offer strategies for the teaching and learning of reading and writing skills across subject areas. In addition, there will be opportunities for delegates to discuss with others how they might develop reading and writing skills further within their own classrooms, subject areas and/or whole school.
