Lighthouse Professional Development conferences offer students a rich, memorable, learning experience.
This is now the second year for examinations for the 'new' specifications and lessons have been learned from the first year of examination and the first round of examination papers.
This event has been designed to add the finishing touches to the two years of preparation following the completion of the controlled assessment by pulling together important aspects of the 40% theory component. This is traditionally the aspect of the examination which pupils find to be the most challenging and it is almost certainly going to be the component which has the most influence upon final grades. The grade boundaries reflect the fact that the majority of pupils achieve significantly higher marks in the practical (controlled assessment) than they do when completing the question papers.
This conference aims to unravel the mystique and mystery of the theory papers by bringing the theory content 'alive' by considering it via a more hands-on approach. This includes explaining the 'rules' of question papers with practical tips regarding how questions should be approached and answered in the most efficient and successful way. Using a more 'practical' approach to answering questions (by considering some of those used by the examination boards already), interacting with experts in the field (an ex- Chief Examiner and text book author, an AST PE specialist and a current Olympian) as well as being entertained by a Guinness World Record Holder is at the heart of the days programme.
Full use will be made of the technology currently available to aid and enhance learning with plenty of visual stimulation to keep the audience both informed and entertained!
