Reaching and Teaching Non-Traditional Learners

Course code:
SEN004
Everybody can learn - but what to do for those pupils whose learning profiles and needs go beyond the expected pattern and provision? National statistics show that currently 50,000 pupils truant daily and that pupils with SEN are six times more likely to be excluded from school than non-SEN pupils.

This presentation will demystify a range of SEN terms used to describe learning and behavioural issues including ADHD, ASD, CD, SpLD and ODD. Within the present culture of inclusion and multi-agency co-operation we will consider a range of school - based systems and strategies for successful teaching and support.

We will use presentations, video, research findings, practical activities and case studies to provide a relevant, stimulating and well-balanced day of practical advice and suggestions.
