A lot of research has been carried out into what makes an effective department; this course aims to use some of this research to identify the features of effective leadership and management of an English Department to enable colleagues to identify strengths and areas for development within their own departments. The course will offer guidance on planning and evaluating courses, implementing and managing procedures, developing learning and teaching as well as considering how to use statistical information on achievement effectively to track, monitor and target underachievement. The course also explores how to lead and develop a team in order to nurture a culture of innovation and creativity to raise achievement.
