The new KS3 programme of study for science includes more of an emphasis on the Scientific Process and Developing Scientific Skills, and provides less prescription of content. Together these changes should result in greater flexibility for teachers and learners in science, enabling them to better contribute to the forward looking 'big picture' of the secondary curriculum.
However, the ASE have identified what they call a superficial lack of coherence, depth and particularly of exemplification in the 'Range and Content' section- this course is designed to address such deficiencies and will provide extensive support in terms of content and proven strategies for engaging your pupils in KS3 Biology. There is also a concern that many teachers are still grappling with the recent introduction of How Science Works at KS4. This course will consider how these skills can be introduced to your KS3 pupils to engage and stimulate your pupils and eventually improve their success at GCSE.
