The New Secondary Curriculum, being phased in from September 2008, places personal development and the acquisition of personal, learning and thinking skills at the heart of the curriculum and reflects the Every Child Matters outcomes.
Cross curricular dimensions reflect some of the major ideas and challenges that face society and have significance for individuals in the 21st century. In the new curriculum, PSHEE assumes greater importance and prominence than previously through two new programmes of study - Personal Well Being & Economic Well Being and Financial Capability. It is envisaged that as the new curriculum develops, really rich learning experiences will emerge. It is vital therefore, that quality teaching meets these challenges. This course aims to equip teachers with skills that will ensure that their teaching effectively promotes learning for all pupils - and that teaching enhances pupils' personal development, in line with OfSTED's criteria for an Effective Lesson.
