Developing the Independent Learner at Post 16

Course code:
DV0002
We ascribe a level of maturity and an ability to study
independently on students in the post-16 phase which they find
difficulty in attaining. For many students time management is
difficult and they lack the necessary skills to r esearch and plan
their work. Revision tends to lead to a lot of wasted energy.

Most students are unfamiliar with how their brain best works.
Students find AS – A2 challenging and find it equally hard to
settle into HE. Academic study at the highest level can be very
unsettling and a traumatic experience. It is little wonder that
retention rates are low and drop-out rates high in many FE and
HE institutions.

This training day will cover a range of strategies and approaches
that can be used to help engage students in their learning
and help them to become successful independent learners.

Planning, time management and research skills will also be
developed. If we develop students as independent learners
then they will be more successful and obtain far more fulfilment
from their courses.
